About
Here you will find information about NANDA as an organisation.
In a nutshell...
NANDA is voluntary amateur theatre association open to individual and group members.

Established over 70 years ago, our aim is to promote all aspects of theatre arts, to foster high standards and to provide a basis for mutual assistance for all our members.
Although we were originally constituted as a Nottinghamshire association, we welcome membership from groups from nearby counties who want to participate in our competitions, festivals, workshops and celebrity theatre lunches.
What we do
Objectives and purpose
The Association, more familiarly known as “NANDA”, was formed in 1947 to provide an organised body for amateur theatre in Nottinghamshire. The stated objectives in the Constitution are:
(i) to promote all aspects of theatre arts
(ii) to provide a basis for mutual co-operation and support
(iii) to foster progressive standards
The Executive Council
The Executive Council is elected annually at the Annual General Meeting from representatives nominated by member groups. Vice Presidents are also invited to attend Council meetings. All the committee work is undertaken on a voluntary unpaid basis by elected officers, group representatives and by co-opted individuals appointed by the Council. Our policy is to make organised events self supporting and to maintain subscriptions for the administrative cost at as low a level as possible.
The Mike Stewart Digital Archive
Mike has been a long-time supporter of community theatre in Nottinghamshire and is a current vice-president of NANDA. Over the years, he has put together, and kept up to date, a digital record which can be found at wetstar.org.uk and by clicking on NANDA.
Our AGM
The Annual General Meeting is held in the early part of each calendar year at which Officers and an Executive Council are elected.
Reports are also received about the previous year’s activities and on the Association's financial position. Individual members are entitled to vote as well as one representative of each affiliated Group.
The Dan Shaw Archive
For the Preservation of Amateur Dramatic Society Records.

The issue of preserving the records of community theatre groups became apparent when the NANDA undertook research for its publication of the History of Amateur Theatre in Nottinghamshire. This prompted the late Dan Shaw to offer funding to establish a dedicated archive in the Nottinghamshire County Archive Offices in Canal St.
It is to be hoped that societies will present their operational records for inclusion in this archive.
The Archive Office will be pleased to receive and catalogue minutes, programmes, financial statements, constitutions and photographs and provide a list of what is submitted which still remains the property of the lodging group and available for reference if needed. Please do not wait until some former secretary leaves and all records are lost - parcel up these records and offer them for retention in this unique archive file.
